Smoking Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is a disease in which tumors form in the lung tissues. It is the leading cancer killer in both American men and women. There are several causes of lung cancer including smoking, radon exposure, exposure to asbestos and toxic chemicals, lung inflammation and scarring, and family history.

Tobacco smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer. In the United States, about 90 percent of male lung cancer deaths and 79 percent of female lung cancer deaths can be attributed to tobacco smoking. Worldwide studies have indicated that smoking causes about 90 percent of lung cancer deaths around the world.

Lung cancer is the most ordinary reason of cancer death in both men and women. Smoking responsible for 90% of cancer deaths, lung cancer mainly strikes people over age 45.

Cigarette smoking causes over 85 percent of lung cancer deaths. It has been estimated that cigarette smokers are ten times more likely to get lung cancer than nonsmokers are. The chances of getting lung cancer increases as the number of cigarettes you smoke each day increases. Smoking cigars, pipes, or marijuana cigarettes can also increase your chances of getting lung cancer.
